Direct to Wall Soundproofing

High performance and meets building regulations but where space permits and even higher performance is required consider the Decoupled Timber Stud Soundproofing Solution.
  Soundproofing a timber stud wall

Direct to Wall Solution 27.5mm - 30mm

Application
: Simple slimline solution with a high performance of over 50dB! For absolute minimal loss of living space e.g. bedrooms, bathrooms, offices and to meet building regulations.

Construction (Stud Partition):
- wall with or without existing plasterboard.
- (optionally fit 45kg/m³ mineral wool to suit stud void).
- 15mm Phonewell® Acoustic Insulation.
- 12.5mm or 15mm sound resistant plasterboard.

Materials List
(available from our stockists)
- Phonewell® acoustic insulation (1200mm x 800mm x 15mm)
- sound resistant plasterboard (2400mm x 1200mm x 12.5/15mm)
- adhesive foam and foam gun (approx. coverage per can is 15m²) or drywall screws can be used in place of the adhesive foam with only 1dB reduction in performance.

Instructions: (have you considered Flanking Noise?)
1. Make existing wall sound by removing any loose material.
2. Bond or screw Phonewell® to the existing wall butting panels closely. Do not leave any gaps. See Cutting Phonewell.
3. Bond the plasterboard to Phonewell® or screw through Phonewell® into the studs, being careful to stagger joints and leaving a 5mm perimeter gap around floor, walls and ceiling. Optionally add a second layer of plasterboard.
4. Seal 5mm perimeter gaps with flexible mastic or acoustic sealant.
5. Tape and seal all plasterboard joints and fill screw heads.
6. Fit skirting boards ensuring no contact with the floor – leave a 2mm gap.
