- is high load bearing
- is natural and sustainable
- provides longevity
- independently certified

Where there is only access to the ceiling below see Soundproofing Ceilings.

For compliance with New Build Part E Building Regulations use The Ideal Timber Joist Solution to Soundproofing a Floor, The Ideal Concrete Solution to Soundproofing a Floor, both below, or see the relevant sections for Timber Frame or Solid Block.

There are a few options for soundproofing floors: all are based on practical access and work involvement. Access may only be possible from the floor above, for example when there is a listed lath and plaster ceiling below (see Soundproofing Ceilings) or there may be no access to the joist cavity.

All options are based on carrying out as much as possible of the ideal construction for a separating floor which meets building regulations.

Flanking Details:
All acoustic floors are susceptible to flanking noise via flanking walls which may need treating, particularly lightweight block or poorly insulated timber frame. When needed it is usually only necessary to sound insulate one wall either upstairs OR downstairs - see Soundproofing Walls.
